Hope House Foundation Employment

Eight reasons to work here.

1. Flexible schedules and great benefits

Part-time staff can work mornings, evenings, and weekends, in shifts that can be anywhere from four to ten hours long. So Hope House may be perfect for you if you’re raising children, already have a full-time job, or are going to school.

Our full-time staff also enjoys some flexibility in scheduling, along with a handsome benefits package which includes health and dental insurance, a liberal leave policy, 401K pre-tax plan, and a retirement profit-sharing plan.

2. Participatory management

At Hope House, EVERYONE has the opportunity to contribute to the decision-making process. Employees help guide the agency, set its course, and shape its future. So if you’ve got ideas or opinions, speak up! We’ll listen.

3. Mega-fun staff development activities

Everyone at Hope House works as a team. So we do a lot of activities that help strengthen those bonds. You’ll have opportunities to participate in a ropes course (link opens in a new window), go rafting on the James River, and try rock-climbing in Charlottesville.

Throughout the year, we hold regular staff retreats that focus on both personal and professional development. And our annual retreat in September is not to be missed. In addition to discussing agency goals, we also have a lot of fun. Activities usually include a band or vocal group, ice-breakers, guest speakers, and socializing into the wee hours. All retreats and developmental activities are free for employees.

4. Cool fundraising events

We raise money for Hope House with events throughout the community like the Stockley Gardens Arts Festival, Hope Cup, Shamrockin’ in Ghent, and Chelsea West Fest. The Hope House Thrift Shop is another way we raise funds – and you can pick up some great bargains there, too.

5. Value-driven workplace

Want to make the world a better place? Hope House is a great place to start. We practice what we preach, not just with the people we support, but with the people who work here. Here, you’ll find kindness, acceptance, diversity, inclusion, respect, and a belief that we can all make a difference, every day.

6. Potential for growth and career advancement

Hope House routinely promotes from within the organization. In fact, most of our full-time employees began here in part-time positions. And many of our employees have been with the agency for ten, twenty, and even thirty years or more!

7. Informal atmosphere

Every day is Casual Friday at Hope House. So you can wear jeans to work whenever you want. Plus, part of your job includes helping the people we serve enjoy movies, the beach, shopping, the YMCA, sporting events, concerts and more – and you get paid for doing it.

8. Innovative services and a nurturing work environment

Hope House is recognized nationally and internationally as a leader in the field of intellectual and developmental disabilities. And that’s thanks in large part to the people who work here. We encourage your participation and creative problem-solving, and are committed to maintaining trust and appreciation in the workplace.
